This cucumber hybrid was bred by Russian specialists working at the SeDeK agricultural company. Work on developing a new variety was carried out at the beginning of this century, and this vegetable crop was added to the Russian State Register in 2007. Emerald Stream is recommended to be grown in almost all regions of the country on farms, in private gardens in open and closed ground.
Watch how Emerald Stream cucumbers grow in a greenhouse and how the author of the video speaks about the variety:
Many vegetable growers classify the Emerald Stream cucumber as a member of the “Chinese cucumber” series - with elongated fruits, exclusively for adding to vegetable salads and snacks.
Harvest of "Chinese cucumbers" |
The crop can be grown throughout the entire gardening season - spring-summer and summer-autumn, fruiting will be greatly extended over time, and the yield will be increased.
Main characteristics
- Location: The variety loves sunny areas; when planted in the shade, the vines slow down and this has a bad effect on the harvest.
- Ripening period: Emerald flow is classified as an early ripening variety.
- Landing interval: The shoots branch quite strongly, so when planting, you should make fairly large intervals between neighboring plants - up to 0.3-0.7 m.
- Fruit size: Large-fruited, 30-50 cm long, weighing 150-200 g.
- Growing season: From the moment the seeds germinate until the first cucumbers are harvested, it can take up to 44-46 days.
- Productivity: When grown in open beds - about 6 kg of greens from one square area. In closed ground, yields are noticeably higher.
- Purpose: The variety is classified as a salad variety; such long cucumbers are usually not used for canning.
- Pollinator: Parthenocarpic - ovaries form on the vines without pollinating the flowers.
- Bush growth type: The cucumber bushes of this hybrid are of the indeterminate type and their shoots are not limited in growth.
- Usage: For open and closed ground
The Emerald Stream cucumber variety should not be planted in large quantities. 2-3 bushes are enough for a family |

I haven’t grown long-fruited cucumbers before - it seemed to me that the fruits of such varieties and hybrids do not have a pleasant taste, they are bitter, and such plants require special care. But Emerald Stream turned out to be an unpretentious variety with good yield. I grew this variety both in the beds and in the greenhouse - the cucumbers did not get sick at all, did not require special care and fruited well anywhere. We used the harvest for food, and I salted some of it in a barrel in pieces - my family liked it
Description of the variety
This cucumber hybrid, when entered into the State Register, was declared as a bee-pollinated variety, but currently experts classify the Emerald Stream variety as a parthenocarpic type. This means that the ovaries form perfectly without pollination of flowers by bees or bumblebees, however, with additional pollination by flying insects, the yield of the Emerald Stream cucumber only increases.
The pulp is compacted, with a small seed chamber (the seeds in which are at the stage of milk maturity). Cucumbers are juicy and crispy, at the genetic level they do not have the bitterness inherent in many varieties, with a pleasant cucumber aroma.
The purpose of this variety of cucumbers is primarily salad. |
It is recommended to collect ripe fruits no longer than 22-24 cm. Cucumbers of this variety tend to overgrow; as the length of the cucumbers increases, their width increases, the fruits turn yellow, and their taste deteriorates.
Ripe greens are mainly used for preparing vegetable salads and appetizers, but many housewives salt and pickle these cucumbers whole or cut into pieces.

Growing features
Medium loamy, breathable soils are best suited for growing Emerald Stream.
Seeds can be sown in the ground when it warms up to 15-18ºС. Planting depth is 1-2 cm. Crops must be covered with film.
Sometimes you see very curved fruits; there can be many reasons, but the most common is lack of moisture. Watering is carried out with warm water in the morning.

This variety of cucumbers grows a powerful bush and large fruits, so it needs to be fed at least once every 7-10 days.
- Apply the first fertilizing 10 days after emergence with mullein infusion or herbal fertilizer.
- second feeding - 1 tbsp per bucket of water. spoon of urea + 1 teaspoon of potassium sulfate
- third feeding - azophoska + potassium sulfate
- subsequent feeding - organic + ash infusion
Experts recommend growing this variety vertically, tying the vines to trellises or special nets.
The bushes are formed as follows: the lower 4-5 leaves are removed along with the side shoots. Above, only the stepsons are removed, leaving the leaves and ovary. On the top of the shoot, which has outgrown the upper trellis and has begun to go down, I leave all the stepsons.
Thus, the crop is formed on the central stem and shoots descending downwards.

Instead of loosening, it is better to use mulching.

When I first planted this cucumber hybrid in my beds two seasons ago, I did not expect its fruiting to last so long.I planted the seeds of this variety in the beds in the second half of May, and already at the end of June I began to collect ripe fruits. Fruiting continued almost until the end of September. I would like to note that it is necessary to collect ripe greens in a timely manner so that new ovaries appear faster.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
The main advantages of this cucumber hybrid include:
- early fruit ripening;
- possibility of growing in the garden and indoor ground;
- resistance to most diseases, including powdery mildew;
- the lashes of this cucumber are practically not damaged by insect pests - aphids and spider mites;
- resistance to growing in the shade, short periods of drought, and resistance to sudden changes in temperature.
Among the disadvantages, it should be noted that this cucumber is susceptible to root rot, and its fruits do not last long.
Reviews from vegetable growers
Not everyone likes this variety of cucumbers, look how the author of the video characterizes it:
Katerina, 34 years old, Rostov-on-Don
This is not the first season I have been growing the hybrid Emerald Stream in my garden. I use the harvested crop mainly for food, since my family really loves vegetable salads with cucumbers - they are ready to eat them several times a day. This hybrid is unpretentious; up to 5 greens can ripen on a bush at the same time. Since the Emerald Flow cucumber is a hybrid, seeds must be purchased regularly at gardening outlets.

I grow all the vegetables in my garden in greenhouses. A couple of years ago I decided to try growing long-fruited cucumbers. My choice fell on the Emerald Stream hybrid.I liked the result - the cucumbers practically did not get sick, they grew tall, and the yield was sufficient for eating daily. We even managed to pickle part of the harvest in a barrel - it turned out delicious, the pickles turned out without voids, they remained tender and crispy. Now I plant at least 10 bushes every year.

Once I planted Chinese-type cucumbers in my garden specifically for salads. And now I plant such cucumbers regularly. Last year I planted Emerald Stream and I can say that I have never grown another such unpretentious salad variety before. First, I grow seedlings of this hybrid at home, then plant them in the garden beds, stretch a special net to which I tie the lashes as they grow. This makes it much easier to care for tall vines and collect ripening greens. The main thing is not to let the cucumbers overgrow, otherwise they will become tasteless, turn yellow and become too thick.

This is not the first season I have been growing this cucumber hybrid. I recommend it to everyone who really loves eating fresh cucumbers every day during the summer. I tried pickling greens from the Emerald Stream - my family members didn’t really like it. But fresh cucumbers are simply delicious, tender, sweetish, crispy, and suitable for salads, and we make sandwiches with them, and various snacks.

For me, all long-fruited cucumbers are rather exotic. Their fruits are too watery, when slightly overripe they turn yellow, and their taste deteriorates. And after picking, you need to eat the fruits immediately, otherwise the next day they become flabby and soft.
According to reviews from vegetable growers, this cucumber is distinguished by its extraordinary vitality for this vegetable crop, can bear fruit even in unfavorable weather conditions, and is also distinguished by long-term fruiting.
