Spring feeding of garden trees

In the first half of summer, garden plants need all three main nutrients - nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. If you didn’t have time or forgot to feed fruit trees in the fall, be sure to do it in the spring.

Phosphorus-potassium fertilizers have low mobility and remain in the application zone for a long time. Therefore, it is more beneficial for plants to apply 30-45 g of superphosphate per square meter during digging in the fall. m.

Before planting trees and shrubs, phosphorus-potassium fertilizers are applied deeply and in increased doses for a long period of validity - 4-5 years. In the first year after planting, humus is applied in the form of mulch and covered during digging.

In the spring, tree feeding is applied in the form of an organo-mineral mixture - with humus, peat or compost. On carbonate soils, this increases the utilization rate of superphosphate. This mixture is prepared two weeks before application to the soil. For 10 kg of moistened organic matter, add 200-300 g of double superphosphate, 120-150 g of potassium sulfate and mix well. Place 2-3 buckets of this mixture under the apple tree.

Potash fertilizers are also applied as deep as possible. Can be mixed with superphosphate and organic matter. The application rate is 120-150 g per tree, or 20-25 g of potassium sulfate per square meter. m of tree trunk circle.

For stone fruit crops, fertilizer doses are halved.

Deep application of phosphorus-potassium fertilizers promotes the development of a powerful root system. It is carried out in furrows, circular grooves, but preferably in holes along the periphery of the crown with a depth of 30-35 cm. The amount of fertilizer intended for one tree is distributed to all holes.

When fertilizing in early spring in dry form, subsequent watering is required.

Nitrogen fertilizers begin to be applied from the 2-3rd year after planting, when the plants take root and become stronger. The need for nitrogen in fruit plants (especially young ones) usually occurs in early spring, when the snow has mostly melted, but in the morning the soil is still frozen. If this deadline is missed, apply fertilizer before furrowing (first loosening) the soil.
